North East Welch Credit Union Selects CO-OP Financial Services For Pin And Debit Processing

CO-OP’s Scalable Payments Ecosystem Enables Small Credit Unions to Offer Big Payments Experiences

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California – As North East Welch Credit Union (newelchfcu.com) approached the end of its existing PIN and debit processing partnership, the $20 million cooperative set out to find a partner with rich payments expertise that also understands – and values – small credit unions.

The credit union found that partner in CO-OP Financial Services, according to Susan M. Maas, CEO of North East Welch CU. And, Maas adds, the payments fintech also demonstrated how the 2,700-member institution could give its debit cardmembers an experience on par with some of the country’s biggest, most progressive financial institutions.

“After an extensive RFP process, we chose CO-OP,” said Maas. “They put the features that larger institutions provide within reach of small credit unions. The efficiencies and scale generated by CO-OP’s aggregator model will help us remain competitive without overextending our investment. CO-OP has demonstrated that it will work as a partner with us and provide great service.”

The North East, Pennsylvania-based credit union was federally chartered by the employees of grape juice manufacturer Welch Foods in 1953. The cooperative has since obtained a community charter, allowing it to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in North East or the surrounding communities.

CO-OP PIN and Debit processing enables credit unions to easily add the competitive, benefits-rich payments products modern members expect. Credit unions rely on CO-OP’s growing set of PIN and debit features to transform their card portfolios for the digital era. Members receive a secure, dynamic payments experience while their credit unions grow through increased transaction volume, profitability and member loyalty.

“North East Welch Credit Union is the perfect illustration of the value consumers receive from a people-first, community-based financial institution,” said Matt Kardell, Chief Revenue Officer for CO-OP. “Our ecosystem of products and services is designed with scalability in mind, so that we can help more credit unions deliver the world-class payments tools their members expect.”
